Globally, children, adolescents, and adults living with mental health conditions that require specialised treatments face greater barriers to accessing and successfully completing treatment.
Koa Health and Oxford University Innovation are working together to help close this gap in care, tackling mental health conditions across age groups from children through to adolescents and adults with a suite of digitally-enabled therapies, soon to be available to patients of the UK’s public health system, the NHS. These therapist-supported, digital-first interventions have shown positive outcomes in research and clinical trials that have been duplicated to equal or greater effect in real-world settings by the expert teams at the University of Oxford’s Experimental Psychology and Psychiatry Department to help patients effectively manage symptoms.
The interventions:
- Help patients with social anxiety disorder, other anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder to manage symptoms
- Have been evaluated and are recommended by NICE EVA (Early Value Assessment by the UK National Institute For Health and Care Excellence) as therapist-assisted treatment for adults, adolescents, and children
- Will be delivered by Koa Health working with NHS Trusts and child and adolescent mental health services to enable effective treatment from home, with 24/7 access
- Require less therapist time to deliver excellent patient outcomes and will help reduce the burden on healthcare systems by increasing the availability of care to help close the demand-supply gap
- Following the rollout of these evidence-based interventions in the UK, Koa Health plans to adapt and deploy these NICE EVA recommended therapies for children, teens, and adults worldwide
Oliver Harrison, CEO and founder at Koa Health said, “Koa Health is committed to delivering scalable, evidence-based interventions for mental health. The programmes developed by the Oxford teams can lower the barriers to care, deliver excellent outcomes, and reduce the cost to health services. In short, this means that our NHS is able to treat more people and improve mental health across the population. With an impeccable evidence base and approval by NICE, we see great potential to expand these programmes worldwide, helping children and adults.”
